Carla Gugino is Sally Jupiter in Watchmen!

Whew. :)

First, some homework:

Who’ll get watched in Watchmen?

WB confirms Watchmen, adds Denny from Grey’s Anatomy

Carla Gugino has now been confirmed in the role of Sally Jupiter, the original Silk Spectre who’s also the mother of Malin Akerman’s character, Laurie Juspeczyk/Silk Spectre II.

Sally was one of the Minutemen, which is the superhero team that preceded and inspired the Watchmen.

I don’t remember a time in my life that I wasn’t madly in love with Carla Gugino. Today is no exception, nor will tomorrow be. I’ve loved her in everything I’ve seen her in (and would love to cast her as Lois Lane opposite Jim Caviezel’s Clark Kent if they ever let me make a Superman movie). The lady is sex on legs, with guts and spirit to match her beauty.

If you’ve read Watchmen, you know that Sally Jupiter is a really tough role involving lots of physical and emotional hardships. Carla’s going to amazing.

If you haven’t read it, call up your local comic shop and find out what you’ve been missing. It’s a tough but rewarding read.

Watchmen will get watched in the theater near you on March 6, 2009!

Well, at least Carla is the first (ok, second, I’ve watched some Grey’s Anatomy after all) actor from this Watchmen cast that I’ve actually seen… granted, mostly in the Spy Kids movies but she was great in Sin City (from what little I remember of the film, been a while) and Snake Eyes. So I know she’s capable of the harsher side of life AND she can work in surreal comic book environments.. So, yah.. I’ll go with this one.

Speaking of Nick Cage, have you had a chance to check out the comic book he did with his son? I know, mostly unrelated.. but I’m curious.

She’s really great. She was in the very short-lived ABC series Karen Sisco, in which she played the same Elmore Leonard character Jennifer Lopez played in Out of Sight. (Speaking of Grey’s Anatomy, Patrick Dempsey was in the Karen Sisco pilot.) She’s tough and cool but also va-va-va-voom, and I really think she’ll pull it off nicely.

I haven’t had a chance to check out the comic by the Cage boys, but here’s an article about it. It’s an interesting concept! I still can’t believe Cage named his most recent son “Kal-El.” Then again, yes, I can. :)
