Di-Capri-tain America?

Let me tell you what kind of world we live in.

Christian Bale is Batman.

Hugh Jackman is Wolverine.

Robert Downey, Jr. is Iron Man.

Ed Norton is the Hulk.

And even though it won’t be out until 2011, word is beginning to circulate about who just might be the top name on the list to play Captain America.

Are you ready for this?

The guys over at Latino Review are saying that it’s Leonardo DiCaprio.

Wow.

Captain America is Steve Rogers, a frail young man who volunteers for the U.S. government’s Super Soldier program and is transformed into the super-powered agent who leads some of the most dangerous and outrageous missions against the Nazis in World War II.

Captain America ends up frozen in icy Arctic waters after being blown clear from the explosion resulting from his most heroic and sacrificial action of all, and gets thawed out decades later where he must cope with a world that’s nothing like the one he left but still needs a hero.

It’s great stuff.

I can totally see DiCaprio as the frail Steve Rogers, and then later as the massively bulked-up Captain America.

And if you don’t believe he’s got the grit, check out his fierce performance in a little movie called The Departed.

Or his fearless work in The Aviator.

Etcetera.

I love this. I love that they’re considering real actors for these roles.

The article also says Brad Pitt is another name on the list, which is also good.

(I think the perfect Captain America would be Aaaron Eckhart, but he’s already tied up in the Batman franchise.)

I hope this happens. It’s not an obvious choice, and yet it’d be perfect.
